Dundry Hill, the northern most outcrop of the Mendip Hills, offers spectacular views of both parishes as evidenced in the photos making up our header.
To the south lies the spread out rural parish of The Sacred Heart set 'in pastures green'. Covering a large geographical area from Dundry, Winford and Felton in
the North to Chewton Mendip in the South, Blagdon and Burrington in the West to Norton Malreward, Pensford and Clutton to the East. In all, the parish covers 26 villages and many hamlets and contains
the beautiful reservoirs and nature reserves that are the Chew Valley and Blagdon Lakes.
The parish unites Catholics from all these many villages and hamlets, and is warm and welcoming to visitors and parishioners alike. Whilst Sunday Mass is our focus we enjoy many social events such as skittles, croquet, the annual Pet Service and the Parish Lunch which also brings everyone together as a parish family. We are also keen to reach out to others both in our local and global community, especially in areas that are struggling as a result of poverty and natural disasters.
We engage in many ecumenical events in our various villages as our parish covers 5 Church of England parishes and we are proud to be part of the effort to draw together all of Christ’s followers.
The parish of St Pius X in Withywood, Hartcliffe, Headley Park and Highridge was established, in 1956, to meet the needs of the rapidly growing catholic population as new housing went up in the south of the City of Bristol.
Mass has been celebrated in various locations since (see History of St Pius) before the current St Pius Xth Church building was erected in 1987.
Now on the one site, there is the Church, the former parish centre rented out to Volunteers Matters, the Sartan Club (a social club whose members are drawn from the parish and local community) and of course St Pius Xth Primary School.
We pray you and your family find a warm, welcoming atmosphere here where you are encouraged to get invovled in the life of the parish.
Ecumenism and outreach is important to us as our Parish covers Withywood Church (Anglican and Methodist), St Andrews Cof E, Hartcliffe Methodist Church and The River of Life. We come together in Christian Witness and to serve our local community, especially those most in need.
Both parishes have many celebrations and ministry training together. We also support eachother in our worldwide outreach.
Today we extend a warm welcome to all who come to our churches, whether it be to Mass, another form of liturgy, events or simpy a visit to have a look round.
We look forward to seeing you.
